Edson Wayne Blake Jr.
Edson Wayne Blake Jr., 84, of Beebe, Quebec, died on Saturday, October 24 at the hospital in Magog, Quebec, surrounded by his family, after a short illness that was beset by complications of a long-term condition.
He was born in Irasburg on April 5, 1931 to Edson Blake Sr. and Lillian Sanville Blake. He was the first child of a large family.
He married his second wife, Dorothy Buckland, in June 1956. He had two sons from a previous marriage and three sons from his second marriage.
He was involved in coaching his sons’ sports teams, and he owned vans to transport the teams to their games. He also enjoyed playing darts and shuffleboard at the legion.
He worked on the power line installation in Vermont in the 1950s. He was a maintenance foreman at Butterfield Union Twist Drill in Derby Line, and he owned a milk delivery route until disability forced him to retire in 1979.
He and his second wife bought a camper and spent winters in Florida, where they enjoyed being with friends from all over the United States.
He is survived by his wife; his sons: Wilbur Blake and his wife, Robin, of Hardwick, Bill Blake and his wife, Penny, of Carthage, New York, Steve Blake of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Mike Blake of Derby Line, and Greg Blake of Beebe, and his companion, Darlene Simpson, of Sheffield. He is also survived by his brother Seth (Babe) Blake and his wife, Nancy, of Florida; and by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter in 1956; his parents; his sisters: Eleanor Young, Margaret McFarland, Delia (Tootse) Peck, Patty Manning, and Linda Ignjatovoc.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, at Woodside Cemetery in Beebe, Quebec.
Lois Sykes Carpenter
Lois Sykes Carpenter, 77, of Derby died on October 20, 2015.
She was born in Holland on July 14, 1938, to the late Roger Sykes and Eula Flynn Sykes. She lived her early years in Holland with her family and moved to Derby to attend high school at Derby Academy where she graduated.
On September 11, 1956, she married Charles B. Carpenter Jr. who predeceased her on January 13, 2009. Together they operated a dairy farm on Bates Hill in Derby for over ten years. After moving off the farm, she held positions as an office worker and a commercial knitter. She and Mr. Carpenter did some traveling, visiting family and friends, although she loved being at home surrounded by her family and friends most.
She loved working in her gardens and took great pride in her flowers. She also loved knitting and crocheting for family and friends.
She is survived by the following children: Allen Carpenter and his wife, Theresa, Betsy McDonald and her husband, Harvey, Cory Carpenter and his wife, Colleen; her grandchildren: Allyson Bathalon and her husband, Isaac, Justin Carpenter, Annette Vallieres, Cory Carpenter Jr., Daniel Carpenter and his wife, Alexis, Katrina Carpenter, and Charles B. Carpenter III; her great-grandchildren: Evan, Alexander, Daniel, Jordan, Corine, Ryan, and Xander. She is also survived by the following siblings: Raymond Sykes, Russell Sykes and his partner, Jocelyn Davio, Brian Sykes and his wife, Carolyn, Hazel Pelillo and her husband, Rocco; and by lots of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers and sisters: Earl, Harley, Delwin, Allen, Beulah Ellam, Mabel Judd, Eva Raitt, Janice Santacruce; and by a great-grandchild Ava Lawson.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Van Thomas Corkins
Van Thomas Corkins, 65, of Newport died peacefully on October 21, 2015, surrounded by his family at his home, after battling a year-long illness.
He was born on April 2, 1950, in Amityville, New York, to Dorothy (Riegel)and Harold Corkins Sr.
He graduated from Lindenhurst High School in Lindenhurst, New York, in 1968. He was a lead lathe operator for Ethan Allen Manufacturing in Orleans for the past twenty years. Prior to moving to Vermont, he was a production manager for Russell Plastics for 20 years and part owner of RFP plastics on Long Island, New York.
He was a member of the sons of the American Legion Post 21 of Newport, and the Newport Country Club. He was an avid golfer, New York Yankees Fan, and he enjoyed camping in Holland and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his children: Carolyn (Secreto) Tice and her husband, Paul, of Milton, Marilyn Redfern and her husband, Charles, of Kannapolis, North Carolina, and Jacquelyn Choquette of Concord, North Carolina; his mother, Dorothy Corkins of Newport; five grandchildren: Anthony Secreto and his wife, Kerri, Vincent Secreto, Dakota Choquette, Justin Tice, and Ryan Tice; and two great-grandchildren: Amelia and Benjamin Secreto. He is also survived by his siblings: Harold Corkins Jr. and his wife, Donna, of West Palm Beach, Florida, Ronald Corkins and his wife, Dolly, of Newport, Craig Corkins and his wife, Mary, of Derby, Randy Corkins of Newport, and Darren Corkins of Newport; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and additional extended family.
He was predeceased by his father Harold Corkins Sr. in 1995; his brother Alan Corkins in 1995; and his sister Valerie Gibson in 1996.
A celebration of life memorial will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday October 30, at the American Legion Post 21 in Newport.

Justin Cuyler Delabruere
Justin Cuyler Delabruere, 31, of Island Pond died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 15, 2015.
He was born November 10, 1983, in St. Johnsbury to Roland and Tammy Delabruere.
He was an expert carpenter and especially enjoyed custom detailing with wood.
He loved being outside. He preferred forests and mountains to cities and traffic. He enjoyed his cabin and land, which provided hunting and quiet reflection. He also loved music and could be found jamming on his guitar with friends.
He was a gentle man who was loved by all who knew him. He cared for others and would offer help when needed. His humble demeanor and twinkling eyes will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his parents, Roland and Tammy (Nevers) Delabruere of Sarasota, Florida; his sisters: Shanna Swartwood and her husband, Joshua, and their children: Lillian, Elijah, Naomi, Judah, Ephraim, Vashti, and Phoebe of Ithaca, New York, Chelsey Delabruere and her partner, Mark Ford, and their son, Jonah of Mooresville, North Carolina; his brothers: Seth Delabruere and his partner, Sarah Murphy, of Treasure Island, Florida, and Isaac Delabruere and his partner, Angela Bacon, of Stratham, New Hampshire; his beloved grandparents: Wendell Nevers of Island Pond, and Mary and Roland Doyon of Avon Park, Florida. He is also survived by five uncles and six aunts on his father’s side: Leonard Delabruere and his wife, Linda, of British Columbia, Canada, Robert Delabruere and his wife, Betsy, Claude Delabruere and his wife, Joanne, Armand Delabruere and his wife, Dawn, Richard Delabruere and his wife, Lisette, Pauline Sage and her husband, Gene, Diane Jackson and her husband, Fred, Claire Fontaine and her husband, Raymond, Yvonne Ovitt and her husband, Elton, Yvette Hadlock and her husband, Gary, and Katherine Maxwell and her husband, Brian. He is also survived by one aunt and three uncles on his mother’s side: Lori Dornsife and her husband, Mark, Jonathan Nevers and his wife, Dolly, Patrick Nevers and his wife, Deanna, and Daniel Doyon.
Mr. Delabruere was very proud of his large family which also consisted of numerous cousins, too many to list.
He was predeceased by his grandfather and grandmother Roland and Cecile Delabruere, who will be welcoming him home.
Justin, we love you and will cherish the memories, always.
There will be no funeral services as the immediate family will gather to have a memorial service on Saturday, November 7, at Mr. Delabruere’s parents’ home in Florida.

Michael Donovan
Michael Donovan, 95, of Newport Center died peacefully on October 21, 2015, at his home.
He was born on on May 16, 1920, to Michael and Margaret (Kerin) Donovan. In 1941 he married Esther St. Onge. They lived in Timmoth for two years and then moved to Collins Mills Road where they raised four boys: Dennis, Patrick, Kermit, and James.
Mr. Donovan was road commissioner for the Town of Newport Center for 23 years. After that, he took to his toolbox and fixed loggers’ skidders, as he was a handy mechanic. He loved to plant his gardens and pick blackberries in the summer. In the winter he used his little red tractor to plow the driveway, and that of his neighbor.
He is survived by his wife; his sons: Dennis, Patrick and his wife, Barb, and James and his wife, Sara; his daughter-in-law Pam; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by a son Kermit; his great-grandson Jacobe; and by his brothers and sisters: John, Robert, George, Mary, and Catherine.

Kunigunda (Pohlmann) Gray
Kunigunda (Pohlmann) Gray, 78, of Danville died on Sunday, October 18, 2015, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on February 7th, 1937, in Lanzendorf, Germany. She was the daughter of Johan and Johanna Pohlmann.
She attended school in Germany, and on July 21, 1962, she married Glenn E. Gray.
She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, crocheting, knitting, cooking, and growing flowers and vegetables.
She is survived by her daughter Corinna Costello and her husband, Tom, of Danville; a brother, Emil Pohlmann and his wife, Barbel, of Bayreuth, Germany; a sister, Anneliese Lauterbach of Marktschorgast, Germany; three grandchildren: Jeramie Gray of Island Pond, and Maddison and Porter Costello of Danville; four sisters-in-law: Patricia Gray of St. Johnsbury, Gleigh Heath of Island Pond, Charlotte Gunn of Island Pond, and Virginia Wing and her husband, Alan, of Island Pond; and several nieces and nephews born in the U.S. and Germany.
She was predeceased by her husband; her son Konrad Gray in 2008; two brothers: Wili Pohlmann and Edwin Pohlmann; and by one sister, Helga Bierl.
A memorial service took place on Monday October, 26, 2015, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 1199 Railroad Street, Island Pond, with the Reverend Alan Magoon officiating.
Burial followed at the Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond, and a reception took place afterwards at the American Legion Hall in Island Pond.

James Francis McQuillen
James Francis McQuillen, 85, of Newport, well known businessman and florist, died on Monday, October 19, 2015, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in White River Junction surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 25, 1930, in Rootstown, Ohio, the son of John W. and Cecilia (Knoch) McQuillen.
He graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in Ohio where he was a star baseball pitcher, later joining a semi pro team called Gasseys, where he was known for his left handed sinker. He later shared these skills in Newport as a Little League coach. He was a brick mason by trade.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a radar technician during the Korean Conflict, and later served in the Vermont National Guard. He also met the love of his life, Betty Jenks, while stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. On February 12, 1955, they were married in Newport where they owned and operated Farrant’s Flower Shop and Greenhouse, which is still operating today.
Mr. McQuillen continued his masonry skills by helping to build North Country Hospital, North Country Union High School, and J.J. Newberry’s Store, among many other local landmarks and projects.
He held memberships to the American Legion Post #21 in Newport, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #798 in Newport. He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4329 in Newport, a charter member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #2155 of Newport. He was part of the Knights of Columbus, the Gibbons Council third degree #2285, and fourth degree #1157, and he was an honorary member of the Newport Rotary Club, where he received a Paul Harris Fellow Award for all of his volunteer work.
He was an avid member of Newport Country Club, past president of Newport Jaycees, and past president of the Greater Newport Area Chamber of Commerce. He also served as zoning commissioner for the city of Newport.
He founded the snow golf tournament at the first Winterfest in Newport. For his accomplishments, his picture was published in Sports Illustrated Magazine. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, his coffee meetings at the Royal Restaurant, and later at the Herb March coffee club at Wendy’s, and Saturday coffee at Maplefields. He looked forward to his regular visits to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles, and Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty McQuillen of Newport; his children: Kathleen McQuillen of Newport, Karen McQuillen and her husband, Jerome Ernest, of Centreville, Maryland, James C. McQuillen of Newport, Terrie McQuillen of Derby and her friend, John Garvey of North Troy, Tracie Lanternier and her husband, Gregg, of Hampstead, New Hampshire, John McQuillen of Manchester, Maine, and Mary McQuillen and her husband, Peter Slocombe, of Fairfax; his grandchildren: Abigail Laramee and her husband, Jason, of Derry, New Hampshire, Patrick Paul of Manhattan Beach, California; Amelia and Troy Ernest of Centreville, Samuel and Daniel Lanternier of Hampstead, Maxwell and Margaret McQuillen of Manchester, and Madeline and Victoria Slocombe of Fairfax; a brother, Bernard McQuillen and his wife, Mary, of Kingsville, Ohio; two goddaughters: Chris (Suzie) Blais of Derby Line, and Phyllis Grech of Waterford; his godson Malcolm Rittenberry of Winter Garden, Florida; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers John and Robert McQuillen, and his sisters Cecilia Grether, Mary Williams, and Christina Masl.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 26, with the Reverend Leopold Bilodeau officiating. Internment followed in the Lake Road Cemetery in Newport Center, with full military honors.

Reginald Walter “Walt” Noyes
Reginald Walter “Walt” Noyes, 65, of Barton died on October 12, 2015, at the Maple Lane Nursing Home.
He was born in Lyndonville on April 2, 1950, the second son of Reginald and Louise Noyes.
He attended Newport High School for three years and graduated with the first graduating class of North Country Union High School in 1968.
He started his work career at the Hackett Farm in Derby, and after that he worked for Ray O. Parker and Sons in Lyndonville.
He married Lois (Dumas) Noyes in 1972. For a time they lived in St. Johnsbury before building their log home in Lyndonville, where they had their son, Joshua.
Mr. Noyes continued to drive truck and later drove for Calkins Sand and Gravel as well as helping his brother James out at the wood yard. He enjoyed hunting, driving truck, and watching his son’s hockey games. He lost his wife, the love of his life, in 2000, and never recovered his joy.
He is survived by his son Josh and his wife, Melissa; his grandchildren: Keshia, Christian, and Hogan; his brothers: James, Jonathan and Brian; his aunt Margaret; and many cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and his wife.
A memorial service was held at Pearsons Funeral Home in Lyndonville on Saturday, October 24. Internment followed at the Lyndon Center Cemetery.
